Purpose of the role

Help manage and follow up the financial and accounting operations of projects, ensure the accuracy of records and financial reports, and comply with approved budgets, policies, procedures, and donor requirements, under the direct supervision of the Finance Manager.

Position information

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Prepare and record payment and receipt vouchers and project accounting entries in Al-Aseel accounting software.
  • Review financial documents and supporting papers and confirm they are complete, accurate, and duly signed and approved before recording and posting transactions.
  • Charge revenues and expenses accurately to projects, cost centers, and approved budget lines.
  • Monitor project budgets, compare actual expenditure with the approved budget, and follow up variances and remaining balances.
  • Follow up financial commitments and project-related receivables and payables, and prepare the necessary reconciliations.
  • Prepare periodic and final project financial reports according to management and donor requirements and set deadlines.
  • Carry out financial and bank reconciliations and verify the accuracy of recorded balances and transactions.
  • Follow up and audit financial movements related to inventory, fuel, water, and advances, and match them with supporting records and documents.
  • Contribute to monthly and annual financial closing and prepare the required reconciliations and entries.
  • Organize and archive financial documents and records in paper and electronic form so they can be retrieved easily.
  • Support internal and external audit work and prepare the required financial documents and data.
  • Coordinate with program, project, and related departments to complete financial documents and reports.
  • Comply with financial policies and procedures and internal control systems, and keep financial data confidential.
  • Carry out any other related financial or accounting tasks assigned by the Finance Manager.

Required qualifications and experience

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field from a recognized university.
  • At least three years of practical accounting experience, and at least one year in institutional work, preferably in funded-project financial accounting or civil-society organizations.
  • Full proficiency in Al-Aseel accounting software, including recording and posting entries, managing projects and cost centers, preparing reconciliations, and generating financial reports. This is a mandatory requirement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to prepare and analyze financial data and reports.
  • Good knowledge of accounting principles, financial policies and procedures, and internal control systems.
  • Good knowledge of financial requirements and procedures for projects and donors.
  • Knowledge of relevant Palestinian tax legislation and obligations.
  • Proficiency in Arabic and English appropriate to the nature of the role.
